Eyes So Blue (low)
© 2009 Alan Kim Cochran

She came from Jackson Hollow, when her schooling all had ended
And we became good friends, or at least we both pretended
She reminded me of me, or of what I’d been before
And, the time she flustered red, when I told her “you mean more, to me”

What place have you lived, that a man could make you tremble?
I’d found no one like you, and I never could dissemble
Flower in the desert, my bright and shining girl
Gem of deepest ocean, my soft, exquisite pearl

I’d never seen eyes so blue, in a face of flax and linen
Or a smile so inviting too, what answer could be given?

Confident and free, all the world at your feet
You were bold and you were fine, so faithful and discrete
You reminded me of me, or of what I’d been before
And, the time you flustered red, when I told you “you mean more, to me”

You loved another man - only he would never have you
You wasted all our time, wanting only him to cling to
You reminded me of me, or of what I’d been before
And, the time you flustered red, when I told you “you mean more, to me”

I’d never seen eyes so blue, in a face of flax and linen
Or a smile so inviting too, what answer could be given?
